The Computer Science department at Brandeis University is looking for a
Systems Administrator to support a network of Linux/Unix workstations
and servers for the faculty, staff and students of the Computer Science
department. This person will maintain regular backups of critical
research and teaching data. To instruct neophyte users on surviving in a
Unix-centric environment (we don't support Windows on our segment of the
campus network).
Examples of Key Responsibilities:
Maintains a network of 20 core servers, 75+ faculty and research
servers, and approximately 50 workstations, running Red Hat Linux and
Mac OS; perform regular software updates and data backups.
Works with University IT Security team and coordinates with Science
Division team to identify and remediate potential security issues.
Assists faculty and graduate students in planning, purchasing, and
deploying additional computing resources.
Implements appropriate improvements to the department's computing
infrastructure
Supervises undergraduate workers
Assists users with their Linux/Unix usage problems
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required plus 5-8 years experience
Must have experience in administering heterogeneous Linux/Unix
environment. Requires current knowledge of RFCs and BCPs pertaining to
mail, web, DNS, NFS, backups and other technologies as they evolve.
Absolutely must keep abreast of current trends in security in a
networked environment.
