Oops, I just saw that you're running a SunFire X4275 and not a thumper. Regardless, 12 disks is going to be faster than 5 disks (especially in a RAID-5/6 configuration) and the overall arch is much faster. So, while my argument is weakened, I still wonder about the value of this comparison.
