[BBLISA] Media recycling

The recent post about data destruction prompted me 
to think about a related issue. 

I have about 250 old 1/4" cartridge tapes (mostly
DC600s). The data on them is not at all sensitive,
but I'd like to get rid of them in some more 
environmentally friendly way than just putting them
in the dumpster. Does anyone know of someone in the
area who does media recycling? I don't want anything
for them, and don't want to pay an arm and a leg to
ship them off somewhere. 

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have been experiencing intermittent, but persistant cases
