My experience, as a professional, is

  (1) To survive with your mental health intact in this industry, you
      need a sense of humor.

  (2) Trying to reason with most companies about such minutiae is an
      exercise in utter futility, unless either the company is very
      small or the product is very, very expensive and you haven't made
      all of your payments yet, or numerous other customers are making
      the exact same complaint.

  (3) If you can reach one of the developers, they *might* hear reason
      and get your disired enhancement into the product... in a few
      years.

  (4) It's usually much easier to figure out how to work around such
      issues than to get a vendor to change their evil ways.

  (5) Always go with an open source product, rather than a commercial
      product, if there exists such a product that meets your needs and
      has an active user and developer base.
