<p class="">The Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT seeks a Database
Analyst for our Database Engineering team within the IT/Systems
organization. Reporting to the Manager of Research Computing, this role will be
responsible for the delivery of structured data services to the Broad community
as well as the day-to-day operations of the infrastructure supporting those
services. The successful candidate will bring a combination of technical skills
including database administration, exposure to NoSQL technologies, and
familiarity with fast-paced development methodologies.<br>

The Broad generates enormous volumes of scientific data, much of it housed in
SQL and noSQL databases. Our informatics organizations are continually
improving the state of the art in data management and data analysis, inventing
new ways to analyze and understand the biological relevance of experimental
results.</p>

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY<br>
<br>
Provide database administration services to the Broad research community,
including provisioning, monitoring, and optimization of databases. Work with
informatics developers to assess database requirements and advise on solutions.
Respond to database service interruptions as required to meet service level
goals.<br>
<br>
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES<br>
<br>
• Install, configure, and upgrade database server software (Oracle, MySQL and
other) and related products<br>
• Monitor and troubleshoot problems to ensure continuous operation of database
servers and related functions<br>
• Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures<br>
• Develop scripts to automate administrative tasks<br>
• Perform database tuning and performance monitoring<br>
• Work with informatics teams to establish database performance, functionality,
and availability requirements<br>
• Provide occasional off-hours support as required </p>
<p class="">QUALIFICATIONS<br>
<br>
• BA/BS/MS in Computer Science or related technical field<br>
• 3-5 years of professional experience administrating Oracle and/or other RDBMS
systems<br>
• Demonstrated familiarity with SQL<br>
• Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (e.g., python, Perl)<br>
• Experience with MySQL administration preferred<br>
• Experience with MongoDB or other noSQL database administration preferred<br>
• Experience in any of the following is desirable: bioinformatics, laboratory
information systems (LIMS), and industrial automation<br>
• Demonstrated experience in providing technical end-user support</p>
