<div dir="ltr"><b>Linux Systems Administrator I, Broad Institute, Cambridge</b><div><br><div><br></div><div><div>OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY</div><div><br></div><div>The Linux Systems Administrator serves as part of the Research Computing team. This team is responsible for managing more than 1,500 Linux servers and more than 20 Petabytes of data. The team provides end-user support to more than 700 scientists who make use of the systems in their day-to-day research.</div><div><br></div><div>The Linux Systems Administrator will troubleshoot hardware and software issues, enlisting vendor hardware support as required. They will participate in the physical installation and provisioning of new serverhardware, respond to reports of server outages, and share on-call responsibilities with other team members.</div><div><br></div><div>The Broad’s Research Computing environment employs a high level of automation in order to allow a small staff to support a large number of systems. The Linux Systems Administrator will be expected to maintain documentation of server configurations, and to follow established procedures for resolving technical problems.</div><div><br></div><div>The ideal candidate for this position will be strongly motivated to learn both the technical and scientific requirements for the systems in order to provide a high level of support and communication with the research community.</div><div><br></div><div>CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES</div><div><br></div><div>● Monitor systems for normal operation and performance.</div><div>● Assist in the installation, provisioning and deployment of new computing hardware and associated software</div><div>● Investigate server hardware issues and coordinate resolution with vendor service technicians.</div><div>● Document administrative procedures and issue resolutions</div><div>● Perform off-hours work as required to accommodate production requirements or respond to high-priority service requests</div><div>● Other tasks as required</div><div><br></div><div>QUALIFICATIONS</div><div><br></div><div>● Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other technical discipline with basic knowledge of IT</div><div>computing systems, or equivalent experience.</div><div>● 0-2 years of related experience (SAGE level I ).
