OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY<br>Consults with scientific organizations and users about their computational goals and requirements.<br>Suggests appropriate solutions that meet institute requirements for security, supportability, and data<br>
protection. Provides insight into best practices and methods for data analysis tasks. Provides direction to<br>IT staff and leadership regarding computation needs and appropriate resource-sharing approaches.<br>Manages scientific software and associated tools on the Broad Linux computing cluster. Advises on<br>
available software tools and investigates and installs additional software packages as appropriate.<br>The ideal candidate will have direct experience in using common bioinformatics tools and a solid<br>knowledge of Linux administration.<br>
<br>CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES<br>· Maintain regular contact with consumers of computational services, acting as their partner in<br>technology planning activities<br>· Act as Subject Matter Expert for several technology areas<br>
· Manage technology deployment projects of moderate scope and size<br>· Participate in evaluation, prioritization, and resolution of reported issues<br>· Maintain domain-specific software collections and databases<br>· Evaluate requests for new software installations<br>
· Help users automate routine repeated tasks through scripting or other means<br>· Assist in the development and delivery of user documentation and/or training<br>· Document administrative procedures and issue resolutions<br>
· Perform off-hours work as required to accommodate production requirements or respond to high priority service requests<br>· Other tasks as required <div><br></div><div> QUALIFICATIONS</div>· Bachelor’s degree in biology, computer science or other technical or scientific discipline with<br>
Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of Linux OS and networking, masters degree preferred<br>· 5-8 years of related experience<br>· Understanding of fundamentals of TCP/IP, NFS, CIFS, Linux memory management, scheduling<br>· Familiarity with common bioinformatics software strongly preferred<br>
· Familiarity compiling open-source software on Linux or UNIX strongly preferred<br>· Ability to communicate effectively with people of differing technical abilities<br>· Experience with at least one workload scheduling system (e.g. GridEngine or LSF)<br>
