INSTITUTE,
CAMBRIDGE, MA

The Broad Institute is redefining the
boundaries of science and
medicine with an interdisciplinary model designed to meet today’s
most
critical biomedical challenges. Here you will find an intense,
exciting environment and a firm commitment to continuously invest
in
cutting edge technology. At the Broad we are developing the new
tools
that will enable scientists to begin unlocking the mysteries of
genomics.

The Broad Research IT infrastructure comprises a 4000-core
computing
cluster, several hundred application and compute servers—both
physical
and virtual—and a NAS environment hosting more than 4PB of data.
Spanning three physical data centers, this infrastructure supports
an
active research community of more than 1000 people.
This position will serve as a senior technical resource to the
production data-generation “platforms” and scientific computing
community within the Broad Institute. In this platform support
role,
the individual will be primarily responsible for the design of the
systems infrastructure supporting the large-scale generation,
management, and analysis of chemical and biological data deriving
from
multiple technologies. To achieve this, the individual must have
the
ability to understand the informatics organizations’ application
and
lab environment at all levels, including hardware, operating
systems,
application servers and web interfaces, connectivity to backend
databases, etc. As liaison to the IT operations team, this
position is
also responsible for maintaining an excellent working relationship
at
all levels of the groups being supported. The person in this
position
must be able to understand and translate the current and future
requirements of the data-generation platforms into systems
solutions,
and must act as an advocate for that organization within the
Application and Production Support Group, making sure issues are
resolved in a timely and effective manner.
The Broad IT infrastructure comprises a large Linux-based blade
farm, a
number of special-purpose (e.g., large memory) computing and
application servers, and nearly ten petabytes of SAN and
network-attached storage representing multiple technologies.
