The Data Warehousing Guru is responsible for providing data for business
intelligence to internal management by mining/transforming mountains of data
into a flexible, understandable and manageable reporting framework. <br>
<br>
Essential duties include... <br>
<br>
* Meet with business leaders to gather data needs and then design
data-gathering infrastructure to satisfy those needs. <br>
* Identify options for potential data solutions and assess them for both
technical and business suitability <br>
* Create logical and physical design of the data warehouse and all associated
schemas (hands-on DB work) <br>
* Strategize data aggregation and consolidation techniques <br>
* Research, evaluate, prototype, and learn tools to assist in the above <br>
* Design reports to represent the data gathered. Make the mountains of data
*useful* for business leaders. <br>
* Other duties as assigned <br>
<br>
Education and Training... <br>
<br>
* BS or BA degree preferred <br>
* Experience with OLAP and multi-dimensional data analytics products and
technologies (e.g. Cognos, Business Objects, Hyperion, Pentaho etc). Identify
best solution for current and ongoing business needs <br>
* Strong relational database technologies experience, including schema modeling
and design <br>
* Write advanced SQL queries, preferably in complex MySQL environments <br>
* Create data-transformation and data-aggregation functionality (bash scripts,
MySQL events, triggers etc) <br>
* Ability to translate business concepts into data and vice versa <br>
* Contribute to improvements in technical and business processes <br>
* Handle multiple tasks, switching priorities and focuses as needed <br>
* Experience with Data Warehousing concept like *fact tables*, *dimension
tables*, *rollups*, *data cubes* <br>
* Experience with manipulating and *cubing* raw data within Excel is a plus <br>
<br>
Skills and Competencies... <br>
<br>
* Solid working knowledge of Unix/Linux environments <br>
* MySQL experience a plus, but solid demonstrable experience with other
relations DBs is OK (MSSQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL etc) <br>
* Previous hands-on experience installing/configuring a data analytics product
(Cognos, Pentaho, Business Objects etc) <br>
* Experience using Non-relational and/or *NoSQL* database technologies to
supplement MySQL <br>
