<br>High level Linux systems administrator with at least 2 years Linux (Red Hat preferred) experience in a commercial IT environment. Expertise required includes system installation, configuration and administration, system monitoring and implementing new technology solution designs.<br>
<br>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<br><br> * Monitor and troubleshoot new & existing systems to support<br> * Implement key automation tools for streamlining workflow and systems management<br> * Provide first line support for end-user requests and response to automated alerts.<br>
* Assist users with problem resolution and answer system usage questions<br> * Configure and build new Linux images for production and development use.<br> * Perform daily system health and capacity checks to comply with IT practices.<br>
* Maintain documentation of systems configurations and procedures.<br> * Work collaboratively with other systems administration and network staff.<br> * Work collaboratively with development, QA and other administrators to develop and implement improved deployment practices.<br>
* Monitor the availability of patches and updates, evaluate the importance to our environment and schedule installations accordingly..<br> * Work with users to schedule application of patches, software updates and hardware upgrades.<br>
* Work with the Business Continuity Team to refine and test disaster recovery systems and procedures.<br> * Work with hardware and software vendors to resolve hardware outages and software defects.<br> * Keep current with latest Linux hardware and software technology, and evaluate technologies as needed.<br>
* Future 7x24 on-call rotation for support of production systems required.<br> * This position may be based in either Bedford MA, or Boxborough MA.<br><br> <br>Qualifications:<br><br>EXPERIENCE / SKILLS / SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS<br>
<br> * The key criteria is continuous experience as a Linux systems administrator preferably in a large scale Linux mission-critical environment where best IT practices are followed.<br> * Experience administering open-source components including Tomcat /Apache, MySQL, CVS, GCC, gnu, java, SSH, perl modules<br>
* Red Hat / RPM experience<br> * NAS/SAN experience a plus.<br> * Remote (network) installation, system monitoring experience.<br> * Scripting (Bash, Perl, Python) experience a plus<br> * Solaris experience a plus.<br>
* Ability to develop, maintain and follow established procedures<br> * Experience with Red Hat Satellite Server a plus.<br> * Experience with Veritas products a plus<br> * Experience and knowledge of DNS and TCP/IP fundamentals required.<br>
* Knowledge of Directory services software a plus.<br> * Proven Ability in the identification and resolution complicated systems problems<br> * Experience researching and recommending technology solutions<br><br>
