*Good Start Genetics is seeking a full-time Senior System Administrator –
Linux/Unix*
Hours: Regular full-time non-exempt employee, flex schedule negotiable
Good Start Genetics is searching for a full time Senior System
Administrator to supervise and manage all aspects of our high-performance
and general operations compute environments. This position reports to the
Manager of IT.
The ideal candidate will have successfully managed large-scale compute
environments comprising heterogeneous computing activities; experience
handling both R&D/research environments and production clinical lab
environments preferred. This role will include primary authority and
hands-on responsibility for monitoring and maintaining our Linux compute
environment, which includes an Isilon storage management system and HPC
server farm. It also includes VMware environment and extensive AWS server
and storage presence. The position is an extraordinary opportunity for a
solid system administrator to acquire skills in the growing and fascinating
biomedical/genetics domain of high-performance computing.
*Responsibilities: *
• Strategize and design build-out of existing system, as required
• Monitor and proactively handle any issues with our Server Room and other
compute resources
• Maintain system maintenance and activity logs, as well as the master
service log (a regulatory requirement)
• Design and document SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for system
administration activities
• Proactively resolve open issues with scientists or informatics team
members, as needed
• Work collaboratively with scientists, computational biologists, software
developers, and lab technicians to provide highly usable systems with high
performance characteristics
• Proactively communicate risks, obstacles, and deficiencies in plans to
manager and other stakeholders
We are looking for team players who are willing to accept personal
accountability for successful job performance and who have a willingness to
learn new skills, as well as continually improve existing skill set.
*Qualifications:*
• BS in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering,
bioinformatics or related discipline; advanced degree a strong plus
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial product environment,
large research organization, or equivalent
• Experience using Puppet, or similar tools, to manage a large scale Linux
environment
• Experience administering Grid Engine, or similar job schedulers.
• Experience managing VMware, AWS or similar virtual environments
• Strong understanding of LDAP, Active Directory, SAML and related
authentication methodologies.
• Scripting ability in at least one shell as well as at least one
additional common scripting language (python, perl, etc.)
• Experience supporting in-house software developers, particularly in a
Java environment, a strong plus; experience supporting computational
biologists or other scientists a strong plus
• Ancillary expertise in Windows server administration, Oracle databases,
and/or network administration a plus; must be able to supervise and track
such activities
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, superb customer service
skills
• Familiarity with operating IT systems within HIPAA, CLIA, or other
regulatory environments a plus
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and results-oriented startup environment
