The Broad Institute has an exciting and challenging position available for
a Senior Systems Administrator with a focus on VMware. Interested

Under the direction of the Core Services Team Lead, the Systems
Administrator III has primary responsibility for the central VMware
computing environment in addition to supporting authentication, networking,
data access and other key computing infrastructure within IT. The ideal
candidate possesses strong server hardware, hypervisor, software and
network technical competencies combined with excellent interpersonal skills
and a willingness to contribute in a team oriented environment, where team
members take care of our clients and each other. Working with a small team
of experienced system administrators, this person will help to maintain and
grow the core infrastructure and computing environment in a fast-paced,
leading scientific research institution.
*PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
· *Monitor host & guest VMware systems for normal operation,
security, performance and data protection*
· *Plan & anticipate growth and storage/compute/network capacity
needs *
· *Lead design & implementation of new infrastructure projects*
· *Provide technical support under the direction of the Core
Services team leader and senior system administrators*
· *Communicate planned and performed changes with user community*
· *Evaluate, recommend and install new equipment & software*
· *Provide support on technical computing issues to end users and
developers as needed*
· *Automate routine repeated tasks through scripting or other means
*
· *Develop and revise internal knowledgebase, maintain user-facing
documentation*
· *Perform off-hours work as required to accommodate production
requirements or respond to high-priority service requests*
· *Other tasks as required by manager*
* QUALIFICATIONS*
· *Bachelor's degree in computer science or other technical
discipline with strong knowledge of IT **computing systems*
· *6-8 years' experience as administrator of either Linux/UNIX or
Windows systems in a large-installation environment*
· *4-5 years' experience supporting and administering
medium-to-large multi-host VMware cluster environment*
· *Extensive experience with VMWare ESXi, ESX, vSphere*
· *Strong experience with VMWare Horizon View and vCloud suite*
· *Experience with design, configuration management and
administration of large-scale computing *
*Infrastructures*
*Experience with SAN architectures and troubleshooting of block storage
performance*
· *Strong understanding of networking protocols & fundamentals (IP
addressing, subnets, name resolution)*
· *Hands on experience with Dell PowerEdge server families*
· *Experience with configuration management and version control
systems*
· *Experience with cloud computing services (AWS, Azure, IaaS,
PaaS, etc.)*
· *Demonstrated ability to write administrative scripts in one or
more shell, programming or scripting languages (e.g., bash, Perl, PHP,
Python, PowerShell, VBScript)*
· *Experience managing long term projects and shifting priorities
in an sometimes highly interrupt-driven environment*
· *Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and
written*
· *Familiarity with delivering IT services in a scientific research
organization highly desired*
· *VMware Certifications are a plus*
