The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks a seasoned Systems
Administrator to help manage our Linux server environment. Includes
stand-alone servers, 8,000 core compute farm, LSF and Grid Engine
schedulers, VM and cloud environments. Administers computing and data
storage hardware supporting IT services at the Broad. Responds to requests
for support and new services, explains IT concepts and policies, and
follows established IT procedures. Mentors and trains other staff on
technology and professional practices. Manages small to medium scale
projects relating to the computing platform. Shares on-call
responsibilities with the rest of the Systems Operations team members, and
other duties as assigned.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Server OS administration
•Server hardware and vendor management
•Core service application administration
•Client issue response and escalation
•New technology evaluations and innovation projects
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other technical discipline with
strong knowledge of IT computing systems, or equivalent experience
MINIMUM YEARS OF EXPERIENCE necessary to effectively perform essential
functions of the job:
4-6 years of experience as administrator of Linux/UNIX or Windows systems
in a large-installation environment (SAGE level III)
SKILLS / TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
•Experience with design, configuration management and administration of
large-scale computing infrastructure
•Scripting ability in at least one shell as well as at least one additional
common scripting language (python, perl, etc.)
•Solid understanding of networking concepts; able to perform
troubleshooting of network connectivity and service issues
•Experience supporting a scientific research organization
•Demonstrated ability to automate routine repeated tasks through scripting
or other means
•Preferred experience with HPC or parallel compute farm scheduling
environments like LSF or Grid Engine
