*Systems Administrator 2- Storage Specialist*
Broad Institute’s IT Services team is looking for a Systems Administrator 2
– Storage Specialist to join our Storage Operations team. Help us manage
our vast storage environment as we continue to expand to meet the growing
needs supporting Broad’s groundbreaking research that transforms medicine.
The Broad IT infrastructure comprises a large Linux-based blade farm, a
number of special-purpose (e.g., large memory)computing and application
servers, and nearly 16 petabytes of SAN and network-attached storage
representing multiple technologies.
*OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY*
Working with other members of the Storage Operations team and the rest of
the IT Department, the Systems Administrator 2 manages data storage
solutions supporting IT services at the Broad.
Responds to requests for support, explains IT concepts and policies, and
follows established IT procedures. The successful candidate will be
comfortable with both SAN and NAS
administration, wield a strong scripting skill set, and have a good mind
for performance and utilization analytics.
*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES *
Monitor systems for normal operation, security, performance and data
protection
Collect, analyze and publish data regarding storage use and performance to
the Broad community to help optimize information lifecycle decisions
Participate in implementation of new infrastructure projects
Engage with storage vendors and resellers to ensure appropriate delivery
and operation of services and hardware
Evaluate and test new storage solutions for viability within the Broad
storage portfolio
Install, provision and deploy new storage hardware and associated software
Automate routine repeated tasks through scripting or other means
Perform off-hours work as required to accommodate production requirements
or high-priority service requests
Document administrative procedures and issue resolutions
Other tasks as required
*QUALIFICATIONS *
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other technical discipline
required. Strong knowledge of IT computing systems is a must.
2-4 years of systems administration experience in at least one of Linux,
Windows, or MacOS, with working knowledge of at least one of the other two
(SAGE level II); or, basic Linux or Windows systems administration skills
plus 1-2 years of professional experience as a storage administrator (SAN
and/or NAS)
Good understanding of multiple storage platforms and protocols, including
SAN, NAS and cloud environments.
Familiarity with one or more of the following platforms preferred: Isilon,
EMC SAN, SUN/Oracle Storage, NetApp,Infinidat, Violin, Amplidata, Avamar
and Data Domain.
Demonstrated ability to write administrative scripts in one or more
scripting language (e.g., Python, Perl, etc.).
Familiarity with delivering IT services in a scientific research
organization highly desired.
Lean, SixSigma or other analytics-based optimization certification
preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
