Tivli (http://www.tivli.com/what-we-do) is an IP-based television service
that delivers live streaming access of major broadcast and cable channels
to university students. This means national and local programming, news,
sports, movies, dramas, sitcoms, live events and more, all on the computer.
Students can use Tivli to watch TV on their own terms – on laptops and
other devices, anywhere on campus.
Director of Operations
Overview
The Director of Operations will lead network operations and project
planning for deployment of systems to new university customers.
As a member of the team, this person will be the face of our deployment and
network operations. He/she will support the engineering organization by
drawing upon past experiences to inform engineering decisions that affect
network operations, service maintenance and the deployment process.
Candidates must demonstrate project management skills, executive
communications skills, attention to detail, and an ability to juggle
multiple competing priorities between our customers, sales, engineering,
and marketing.
Candidates should either be familiar with, or able to build a technical
proficiency in, working with IPTV technologies and cable/satellite
broadcast equipment. The position will manage a 24/7 operation of
remotely-managed IPTV deployments operating across the United States. This
person will work closely with senior management and the engineering
organization, and report to the CTO.
Basic Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related
discipline.
-
4+ years experience working in IT with progressive experience in IT
operations across multiple locations.
-
2+ years of leading infrastructure projects, including data-center
operations.
Desired Qualifications
-
Strong working knowledge of Linux, advanced networking and network
security principles.

Able to interact with senior leaders and adapt their style as needed for
technical or nontechnical audiences.

Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and an ability to
build effective relationships with internal business partners and external
vendors.

Resourceful and creative when required. Is able and willing to get their
hands dirty when needed.

Familiarity with cable/satellite broadcast equipment or the ability to
build strong technical proficiency in working with this equipment.

Operations management background focused on design and deployment of
support processes, taking opportunities to automate wherever possible. Able
to readily diagnose system deficiencies and design and implement effective
solutions to complex technical problems.

A motivating leader capable of instilling excitement and inspiring
others in and outside of his/her immediate team.

Ability to set clear and deliverable goals. Demonstrates tenacity and is
commited to deliver and be accountable for results.

Experience managing Content Distribution Networks.

Responsibilities
-
Work with the sales team and networking administrators at customer sites
to initiate project planning for new deployments.

Optimize service availability and performance 24/7/365 across multiple
remote deployed sites.

Standardize practices, procedures and policies for launching and
operating deployed sites.

Provide senior management with updates on operational metrics and
progress related to major incidents and projects.

Incident management and reporting: Manage incidents to ensure rapid
closure, while treating that organizational learning experience as an
opportunity to avoid repeat failures.

Process development: Drive and implement processes and procedures that
streamline our operations.

New products and services: Ensure smooth transition of new products and
services from Engineering to Operations through standardized process and
procedures.

Travel: Initially, travel will be heavy as the candidate will need to be
on site for every university deployment. Travel can be as low as once or
twice a month or as frequent as once a week. Longer term, we expect to
contract out deployment visits, which the candidate will be responsible for
managing.
