*SR. LAN STORAGE ADMINISTRATOR #35539*
The LAN Systems group of the University Information Technology (UIT)
department consists of Microsoft operating systems administrators and
network administrators who oversee and manage the servers and
infrastructure constituting the Tufts Microsoft domain. This LAN
environment spans all three Tufts campuses and contains approximately
100+ servers and over 12,500 accounts. The group manages over 200 TB of
storage including 50 TB of file sharing storage on a NetApp NAS cluster,
a NetApp 270c for the Medical School, and an HA VMware deployment using
Equallogic iSCSI storage.
The Senior LAN Storage Administrator is responsible for the
installation, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and support in
a multiprotocol environment including the NetApp FAS6040 Cluster,
FAS3050c, FAS3020c, FAS270c, HP MSA1000 SAN (Exchange), Equallogic iscsi
SAN (Vmware VI3). In addition the Senior LAN Storage Administrator will
be involved in tasks such as: project participation; virus protection;
evaluation and implementation of third party products; performance and
tuning; capacity planning; change control; and problem resolution.
She/he will serve as storage liaison with other Tufts system
administration groups that could encompass planning, designing, and
architecting storage solutions for the university as a whole.
The Senior LAN Storage Administrator must have a strong commitment to
quality control, best practices, and standard production services.
He/she will have strong communication skills with both technical and
non-technical staff, experienced troubleshooting skills, and good
judgment under sometimes stressful situations. The ability to work
independently and manage and prioritize multiple competing tasks and
projects is also essential. This individual will have responsibilities
for off-hours pager coverage.
This is a new position within UIT that deals with storage for file
sharing, email, archives, Oracle, and SQLserver DBs in support of
Academic, Research, Administrative and Enterprise applications.
*Basic Requirements:*
* Bachelor’s degree OR three (3) years of equivalent experience
* At least five (5) years of related technical experience
* Extensive experience as a Storage Architect focused engineer with
NetApp products
* Experience with Active Directory, Windows and with UNIX platforms such
as, Linux, Solaris, AIX
* Experience working in a large, decentralized, multi-platform,
multi-protocol production Datacenter environment
* Solid project management and technical planning experience with the
ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
* Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels within
the university
* Expertise with the following protocols, CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, FC
* High Availability and Disaster Recovery experience
* Strong skill-set and hands-on experience in NetApp design/architecture
& deployment
* Strong experience in design and deployment of all NetApp solutions
including: Deduplication; Snap Mirror; Snap Restore; Snap Drive for
Windows and Unix; Snap Manager for Exchange and Oracle; Operations
Manager (DFM)
* Working knowledge of TCP/IP principles as well as switched and routed
ethernet
*Preferred Qualifications*
* Experience with the following is a plus: Legato Networker, Trend Micro
Server Protect, NTP Quota and File Sentinel
* Experience with the following hardware a plus: HP FC SAN and Equallogic
* Experience with ONTap 7.x is preferred
