Skyrope, LLC ( http://skyrope.net ) is a growing IT service provider looking
for a Linux systems administrator / network engineer. This is a full-time
salaried 1099 to W-2 position available immediately. Compensation will be
market rate.
We're looking for an exceptional person who is highly motivated to make a
difference -- both helping take the company to the proverbial next level and
making a significant positive impact on the clients' business. If you wish
to go beyond jobs where you are pigeonholed, stifled, mercenary or invisible
and become part of something meaningful where you can be yourself and grow
into as much responsibility as you can handle, please do apply. Candidates
must be highly hands-on technical yet have a native business mind. We're
looking for a self-starter who is comfortable wearing different hats in the
course of one day.
This is a unique opportunity to get involved with a young company on the
ground floor yet without taking major risks because the hardest work has
already been done, and the company is already profitable with a stable
client list and more work than we can handle. The right person will thrive
in an environment where there is structure yet no rigid job description. We
need an out-of-box thinker who can execute tactical tasks while thinking
strategically about how to make the whole operation better. The job requires
carrying a pager, part-time field engineering, phone, desktop and sales
support, and remote administration.
Benefits include:
- Informal, non-political environment where we work very hard but genuinely
care about each other and our clients and have a lot of fun
- Exposure to cutting-edge technologies and delivery methods
- Opportunity to continuously develop highly marketable IT skills with
built-in training
- Company laptop and tools, cell phone if usage justified, drug and
smoke-free
contemporary/designed office space with reserved free parking in Cambridge
Requirements:
- 3-5 years experience
- Exceptional work ethic and 100% reliability
- Exceptional problem solving skills, attention to detail and positive
attitude
- Excellent communication, time management, analytical and organization
skills
- Perpetual student of IT who wants to keep learning like the rest of us
here
- Excellent people skills -- ability to develop authentic relationships,
empathize with clients, remain calm under fire, and put people at ease
- Proven experience in Linux (Red Hat, CentOS and SuSE preferred) systems
administration
- Solid understanding of internetworking, switching and routing. Proficiency
with Cisco IOSs and gear. CCNA and other certifications a plus but not
required
- Solid understanding of the TCP stack
- Solid understanding of data, host, perimeter and network security; setup,
administration and troubleshooting of Sonicwall and Cisco firewalls, IPSEC
and SSL VPNs
- Solid understanding of and hands-on experience with assembling,
installing, maintaining and troubleshooting PC hardware and common
peripheral hardware
- Experience setting up and administering storage, backups and disaster
recovery solutions, including through open source tools such as Amanda,
network-attached tape libraries (iSCSI, etc.)
- Substantial experience with setting up, administering and troubleshooting
common services on Linux systems such as http (Apache), DNS (BIND), dhcp,
ftp, ntp, ldap, etc.
- Proficiency with Internet mail including MTAs (Postfix), SMTP, TLS/smtps,
IMAP, POP, relaying, anti-spam and anti-virus setup, administration and
troubleshooting
- Proficiency with network monitoring through SNMP, protocol analyzers, and
tools such as Snort, MRTG, Nagios, etc.
- Experience / familiarity with Windows administration including 2k, '03,
Active Directory, MS Exchange (2000 and up), MS SQL server, etc. MCSE and
other certifications a plus but not required
- Face-to-face user support as well as phone support
- Available for occasional nights, weekends and holidays in form of on-call
time, emergencies and events such as moves
- Massachusetts residency. No overnight travel involved, but reliable
vehicle required for field engineering, and living in Boston metro or inner
suburbs is a plus
- Must be a US person (citizen or permanent resident). Cannot sponsor H-1s.
Wish List (not required):
- Experience with distributed computing, distributed file systems including
NFS, DFS and AFS/Kerberos.
- Fluency in "lite programming" -- scripting (Perl, UNIX shell, etc.) for
systems administration and automation
- Proficiency in databases -- no need to be anywhere near DBA, but
experience with managing databases from the IT side a plus
- Proficiency in common services under Windows including DNS, DHCP, web/IIS,
