Senior Systems Support Engineer
Responsibilities
* The Sr. Systems Support Engineer will develop, maintain and support the
Upromise Corporate IT infrastructure, hardware, and system software
components.
* Perform configuration, debugging and support for a 275+ node network
consisting primarily of a Windows 2003 server and XP Professional desktop
environment.
* Perform root cause analysis for service interruptions; implement preventive
measures.
* Participate in defining and documenting standard operating procedures for
all technologies deployed with the IT organization.
* Provide suggestions for improving overall systems security and performance.
* Perform daily systems administration tasks of internal computing resources,
which include but are not limited to daily backup procedures, responding to
system audit finding and remediation, proactive systems monitoring.
* Perform project management duties for rollout of corporate software and
hardware solutions.
* Perform installation, maintenance and support of system software, hardware
and infrastructure and user support.
* Take the project lead on the corporate migration from Windows 2000
Professional to Windows XP Professional.
* Demonstrate ability to get results in a challenging and fast-paced
environment.
* On-call rotating schedule responsibilities
* Perform other administrative duties as required, such as inventory
tracking, hardware/software purchasing, license tracking, etc.
Qualifications:
* The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of PC Desktop,
Server technology and applications.
* Excellent verbal and written skills are mandatory, as well as strong task
management skills. The top candidate will be a proactive, self-motivated
individual who can provide outstanding technical support
* Must have knowledge in the installation, configuration, troubleshooting and
use of the following technologies Windows 2000 Professional and Server,
Windows XP Professional, MSOffice 2000/2003, Cisco VPN client, Blackberry
Enterprise 4.0, Microsoft Exchange 2003, MS SQL 2000, Legato Networker,
Legato EmailXtender, Netapp FAS270 Storage, Enterprise IM Manager, McAfee ePO
* Must have knowledge of Telecom administration including Octel Voicemail,
Avaya Definity PBX system
* Strong knowledge of LAN Topology, protocols, Routers, Hubs, Switches, CSUs.
Must have the ability to take action to accomplish specific goals,
prioritize work, meet deadlines, manage time effectively, etc.
* Ability to analyze information to recognize potential problems, propose and
pilot solutions, etc.
* Knowledge of TCP/IP, FTP, DNS, DHCP, and network addressing.
* Strong remote access and VPN installation and troubleshooting skills
* Provide outstanding internal customer service.
* Have a clear understanding of the business value of IT and proficiency in
utilizing technical expertise to provide complex technical support (daily
and on-call) for desktop, servers, network systems, phone systems, and
applications
* Experience with Linux/Solaris operating systems is a plus.
* BS Computer Science or related field.
* 5-7 years experience is preferred.
