Software Engineering Manager- Sustaining Engineering Group

VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for industry-standard
computers, is seeking Software Engineering Managers to join the Sustaining
Engineering team. This is a highly visible engineering position to sustain
and maintain all VMware products across a wide variety of software and
hardware configurations.   You will manage a team of 10+ senior engineers
responsible for all aspects of VMware's software sustaining engineering
efforts. Work closely with development engineering to drive product quality
and improve RAS and diagnosabibility features.  Deliver monthly patch
releases and quarterly maintenance releases for the VMware product line.  

 

Responsibilities:

*	Create and manage a team responsible for triage and tracking of
escalated software and systems problems
*	Manage the analysis and resolution of escalations
*	Perform problem reproduction and root cause analysis
*	Provide bug fixes and deliver critical customer patch releases
*	Manage delivery of monthly patch releases and quarterly maintenance
releases for the VMware product line
*	Implement a knowledge creation process to document known issues and
develop best practices:
*	Develop software diagnostic tools for use in sustaining activities.
*	Work closely with Customer Support, Sales and PS to ensure the
delivery of high quality and timely problem resolution to our end customers 
*	Responsible for staffing, budget setting and resource management
*	Coach and motivate team members to ensure a highly productive,
efficient team
*	Some travel required

 

Requirements:

*	3+ years' direct experience managing a diversified and
high-performing team.
*	Solid knowledge on x86 architecture as well as Windows and Linux/Unix
OSes
*	Excellent teamwork and leadership skills
*	Strong organizational, people management, project management and
customer interaction skills.
*	BS in Computer Science or equivalent (MS preferred) and 8+ years'
related experience
*	Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple outstanding tasks
*	Good communication, documentation, and organizational skills are
required
*	Must be experienced in software development methodology and software
maintenance practices
