SENIOR NETWORK SECURITY ENGINEER – Tufts Computing and Communications
Services
Network Engineering and Security (a segment of Tufts Computing and
Communications Services) is responsible for the design, maintenance, and
security of the Tufts University data network. This includes management
of IP address allocations, DNS services, NTP, routing, switching,
firewall services, and incident response.
The challenging Senior Network Security Engineer position is responsible
for achieving a variety of technical and non-technical goals that will
assist Tufts University in improving its security posture and reducing
organizational risk. These responsibilities include, but are not limited
to:
· Incident response and remediation;
· Firewall deployment and related management tasks;
· IPS/IDS deployment and maintenance;
· Proactive security scanning and remediation;
· Coding and scripting security tools; development of new applications
to assist the Tufts community in securing their hosts and devices;
· VPN maintenance and troubleshooting.
This position requires a High School Diploma/GED and three to five years
of relevant industry experience. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. The
successful candidate must possess expert level skills in installing and
maintaining NetScreen firewalls in a variety of environments and
configurations. *Candidates without substantial professional NetScreen
experience will not be considered. *Experience managing NetScreen
devices with the NetScreen Security Manager (NSM) would be a substantial
advantage. Additionally, experience with the Cisco Pix firewall platform
would be valuable, but is not required. Past professional experience
with intrusion prevention and intrusion detection systems is necessary,
particularly with McAfee’s Intrushield IPS, Juniper’s IDP and Snort IDS.
Basic Unix and Windows system administration skills and general TCP/IP
networking understanding is required. Cisco VPN concentrator and/or
Bluesocket wireless gateway management experience would be useful.
Knowledge of a scripting language (perl, php, etc.) and database system
(MySQL) would be helpful.
This position requires frequent high-level troubleshooting of complex
systems as well as demonstrated expert level knowledge and a systematic,
analytical approach. The successful candidate must be able to work well
within a team, mentor junior teammates within his/her area of expertise,
accept direction and responsibility and collaborate with technical peers
to develop superior solutions. Internal consulting with technical and
non-technical groups will be required. All candidates should possess
superior self-management, documentation, project planning and
