A few weeks ago Splunk (a San Francisco-based company) hosted "Camp Sys
Admin." Here's how their web site described it:
The goal of Camp Sys Admin was to confront the challenges
facing us all as our data centers continue to grow in
size and complexity. During this one-day gathering, campers
participated in open dialog with experts in open source,
messaging systems, VoIP and operations collaboration.
You can read more about the event and see pictures here:

Christine Fife, Splunk's Camp Sys Admin Planning Officer contacted the
BBLISA "admin gang" asking for volunteers to help coordinate a Camp Sys
Admin in Boston (date not specified).
If any BBLISA member is interested in helping with such an event, please
step forward. You do *NOT* have to be part of the BBLISA "admin gang" to
help, nor will volunteering obligate you in any way to help with other
BBLISA events. Christine didn't mention any specific requirements for
volunteers; I suspect that all you need is some time, some enthusiasm,
and a willingness to help.
You can contact Christine directly: <christine at splunk.com>; just so we
can stay informed, please include me in your reply to Christine or just
drop me a note telling me you've contacted her.
In case you need more motivation, here's an excerpt from Christine's
message:
40 sysadmins and other data center professionals got
together for small breakout sessions to discuss topics
like Ops Collaboration, troubleshooting messaging and
VoIP, Open Source vs. proprietary and more. Discussions
were facilitated by such experts as Ethan Galstad, the
father of Nagios, Eric Allmen, Chief Technology Officer
at Sendmail and Brian Aker, Director of Architecture at
MySQL.
. . .
The camp was so successful, we are now developing a
committee to expand on the camps.
. . .
I would be happy to provide more information about the camp
held in San Francisco and about the planning committee which
is in the process of planning a camp in NY, Chicago, and San
Francisco in the summer.
Please contact Christine directly if you have questions.
